As the only service organization of its kind in Harlem, HAA plays an essential role by helping to build the resources, network and capacity of its richly diverse membership. Under the chairman’s leadership, the Harlem Arts Alliance (HAA) has developed from an informal network to an incorporated nonprofit with paid professional staff that is acknowledged in the field for offering core services to a small but growing membership. HAA has grown from a founding membership of 12 to more than 400 arts and cultural groups and artists representing all disciplines and areas of the arts. Counted among its members are artists who are emerging in their careers as well as those who are established and nationally recognized., HAA has earned a reputation within and outside of Harlem as an invaluable resource.   It has sponsored a calendar of monthly meetings, showcases and other events; received awards and recognition for service to the Harlem arts community; developed partnerships with cultural organizations and local businesses; advocated for artists’ funding; and received support from foundations, corporations, government and businesses.
